May 22, 2003 - Hosted by Fort Worth International Center - The Fort Worth International Center and the Fort Worth Chamber
of Commerce recently hosted the Fifth Annual Mayor's Export Awards
celebrating World Trade Week and recognizing excellence in exporting
practices by Fort Worth-based businesses. The event was also the
first official appearance of Fort Worth's new Mayor, Mike Moncrief.
The Mayor's Export Award recognizes Fort Worth-based companies
that have increased their international business activity, demonstrated
creativity in international product marketing and implemented well-developed
export strategies.
This year's winner is Texas Aviation Services, Inc. (TAS), a privately-owned
Texas corporation located at Fort Worth Meacham International Airport.
TAS has been serving the aviation industry for over 30 years. The
company's president and founder is Carl. D "Woody" Woodard
and, at his side, is his son Tim and a team of nearly 50 employees,
at least a half-dozen of which have been with the company for 20
years or more. A veteran of the Air Force, serving in both Korea
and Vietnam, Woody contributes much of his success to the education
he received in the military in the field of technical electronics.
TAS performs highly complex modifications, customizing and avionics
systems integration for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.
TAS's aggressive advertising and networking campaign includes
attending aerospace conferences, such as the Helicopter Association
International (HAI), Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA),
North American International Trade Corridor Partnership (NAITCP)
conference in Fort Worth in 2001 and the international aviation
business matchmaking event hosted by the Fort Worth International
Center in 2002, among others. "We are delighted that the City
of Fort Worth is providing international business development opportunities
for local companies right here at home," says Olga Croyle,
Director of Marketing and Customer Service for Texas Aviation Services.
New helicopter completions number in excess of 500 for corporate
and government customers, law enforcement, emergency medical service,
electronic news gathering, fire fighting, wildlife management and
military uses. On any given day, approximately 50 law enforcement
agencies around the world are operating highly-customized helicopters
completed by Texas Aviation Services Inc. primarily in the United
States, Mexico, Central America, and South America. "When we
got back to the office today, we shut down the shop and called all
the employees together to let them know this award was all theirs,"
said Woodard. "I was extremely humbled not only to win this
award but to share company with two other great businesses like
The Bombay Company and Dynamold.
"Today we're a very proud company," he continued. "We
have the best of everything right now - our home Meacham Field is
one of the true gems of Fort Worth, the employees at TAS are some
of the most talented and hardworking people there are, and we are
fortunate to have the best customers in the world." |
