September 12, 2007 - Mr. Rod Lewis of Lewis Energy in San Antonio, Texas took delivery of his new Eurocopter EC135 P2 when it was formally accepted and flown from Texas Aviation Services.
The EC135 P2 was configured with the most advanced avionics and instrumentation package available anywhere. With four integrated MFDUs displaying all flight and navigation information and a coupled autopilot, the Lewis’ helicopter is single-pilot IFR certified. The cockpit layout included dual Garmin GNS 530 Comm Nav GPS receivers with moving map display, Garmin GDL 69A, satellite radio, satellite weather, WX500 Stormscope, and L3 Skywatch 497 TCAS. A Garmin GMA 347H audio control panel was selected for pilot and co-pilot use. An Artex ELT completed the avionics package. The fuselage was fitted with a controllable landing light for night operations.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis designed the ultra-plush VIP corporate interior which included special loomed carpeting. Aero Comfort of San Antonio hand-crafted the leather seats with Mr. Lewis’ ranch brand embroidered into each seat back. The interior was finished out with custom-crafted cabinetry. Tinted Tech Tool windows were installed, and the interior will be kept cool by an Air Comm air conditioning system.
The passenger entertainment system was built around a highly customized DVD and MP3 system incorporating Bose series X headsets. The visual systems included a forward facing 15 inch monitor which retracts into the center cabinet and twin 5.6 inch PAV 80 monitors built into the aft bulkhead. The video monitors and Bose components combine to create an unsurpassed cabin entertainment system.
The custom exterior paint was of DuPont ChromaLusion color Aqua Purpleen Prizm. This highly prized and specialized paint changes color from deep purple, to royal blue, to emerald green as it is observed from different angles. The painting and striping scheme was accomplished in Texas Aviation Services’ state-of-the-art paint facility.
By any standards, the Lewis helicopter is one of the finest EC135 P2 corporate helicopters flying in the world today. It has both a technologically advanced integrated avionics package for the pilots and a luxurious cabin with the most sophisticated entertainment system possible for the passengers.
Texas Aviation Services is located on Fort Worth Meacham International Airport.
